Dorothy Schulte, 86, Faribault

Dorothy Adeline Schulte died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the LakeWood Health Center in Baudette at the age of 86.
Dorothy was born on April 5, 1926, in Manly, Iowa, to Johan and Adleda Furness. She grew up on a farm in Worth County, Iowa, with her mother, father and 15 siblings.
She graduated from high school in Hanlontown, Iowa, and then attended business college in Mason City.
In 1944, she married John Henry Schulte III in San Diego, Calif. Together they had five children. Dorothy lived in Albert Lea and worked at Ascension Lutheran Church until her divorce in 1970 when she moved to Albuquerque, N.M., and later Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She lived in Ft. Lauderdale until the 1980s when she retired and moved to Faribault where she managed the Meals on Wheels program.
Outside of work, Dorothy enjoyed journaling, reading and oil painting.
She is survived by her children, John H. (Alice) Schulte IV of Albert Lea, Dr. Bradley A. (Jennifer) Schulte of Charleston, S.C., Frederick K. (Lori) Schulte of Lake Vermillion and Cinderella S. (Oly) Olson of Baudette; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Balfe, of Faribault.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, daughter and son-in-law Jillanne Leigh Schulte Hall (Michael), grandson, Jay Frederick Schulte and brothers and sisters, Sigrid, Martha, Hilma, Jennie, Hilborg, Arthur, Mabel, John “Alvin,” Esther, Melvin, Ingvold, Carl, Evelyn and Judith.
A private graveside service will be held in July.
