Davids’ letter was untruthful

Our politicians are entitled to their opinion, but not their own facts.

A recent letter to the editor by former Republican tax chairman Greg Davids attacking our state Rep. Shannon Savick included outright lies.

Rep. Davids lied when he said the Legislature took an up or down vote on Gov. Mark Dayton’s tax plan. In truth, the Legislature simply took a procedural vote that allowed the governor’s tax plan to be heard in a committee where more members of the public could provide testimony and input on the bill. As one of the longest serving representatives in the state, Rep. Davids knew this. His attempt to intentionally mislead voters to smear Rep. Shannon Savick is unfortunate.

Rep. Savick has been a breath of fresh air compared to the politics as usual that Rep. Davids is touting. Rep Savick has done more listening than talking and shown a willingness to work across the aisle. She has already had town hall meetings in the district to listen to the ideas of us in the community.

She has told us she is keeping an open mind on the budget and is focused on seeing us balance our budget without gimmicks such as more borrowing from our schools. I suppose common sense like that is threatening to Rep. Davids and his Republican party leaders.

We should reject Rep. Davids’ underhanded tactics and applaud Rep. Shannon Savick for her hard work on our behalf.
