TEN LAKES TOWNSHIP — Sheriff’s officials say one man is dead and two others are seriously injured in a large brawl fueled by alcohol in northern Minnesota.
Beltrami County sheriff’s deputies and Leech Lake tribal officers responded to a residence near Bemidji about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Authorities say they found a large group of “extremely intoxicated individuals who were bleeding and in various states of distress.”
Forty-four-year-old Leslie Headbird was among those beaten. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Cass Lake Hospital. A male and female were also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say two suspects have been taken into custody, including a 19-year-old man who was arrested in Cass Lake after he tried breaking into a residence and attempted to steal a car from a motorist on the street.
