ST. PAUL — Sen. Al Franken has hired a campaign manager as he prepares for his 2014 reelection bid.
Franken’s campaign announced Wednesday that they hired Matt Burgess, a veteran of Democratic campaigns around the country. Most recently, he managed the successful campaign of New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan, who was elected to the post last November.
Burgess worked for four years in the political department of EMILY’s List, a Washington group that helps elect women candidates around the country. He also previously worked for the Service Employees International Union.
Franken says Burgess will be charged with building a grassroots campaign that will allow him to continue focusing on his U.S. Senate work. So far, no Republicans have announced a challenge to Franken, who was elected in 2008 by an extremely slim margin.
