The Albert Lea High School vocal music department will present a show choir showcase concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door. A supper will be served at 6 p.m. in the high school commons prior to the concert. Sloppy joe, salad, chips and a cookie will be served at a cost of $5.
Performing at the concert will be SASS show choir and ‘CAT’aclysmic show choir from ALHS and State Street Singers from Waseca High School. This is the first year for the event. This will take the place of the show choir competition held at ALHS in previous years. It will be the only fundraiser for the show choir this year.
SASS is the all female show choir at ALHS with girls in eighth- through 10th grade. They rehearse once a week and will perform “Born This Way,” “Bless the Broken Road,” and “Mean.” ‘CAT’aclysmic, a mixed group with students in eighth- through 12th-grade will perform a Disney spectacular with familiar songs, “Seize the Day” from the Newsies, “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah,” “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo,” “Chim Chim Cheree,” “Step in Time,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Part of Your World,” “A Whole New World,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Hakuna Matata,” “I’ll Make a Man Out of You,” “Under the Sea” and “Mickey Mouse March.” Both show choirs are directed by Diane Heaney. Student choreographers this year are Jalen Jimenez, Kyle Zogg and Genevieve Johnson.
Students from Waseca High School will perform “The Magic of Life,” “Beautiful Day,” “Anyway” and “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.” They are under the direction of Deb Wantoch-Yess and choreographed by Waseca alumni, Landi Dulas.
