The United South Central baseball team went down to the wire with Gopher Conference foe Medford Tuesday.

The Rebels earned a 5-4 win to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The game-winning seventh-inning run was set up with a double by David Stenzel, USC head coach Pat Frank said.

Stenzel advanced to third base on a passed ball and Lucas George hit a clutch sacrifice fly for an RBI and the win.

USC has been minimizing its mistakes on the field. In the season opening 12-2 win over Randolph, the Rebels had one error. Tuesday, they had none.

Medford got out of multiple jams during the game. USC had three opportunities with the bases loaded and no outs, but on each occasion, no one scored.

In the top of the sixth inning, Medford took a 4-2 lead, but USC fought back.

“The kids competed hard and came back in the bottom of the sixth with two runs,” Frank said. “But, good teams do that.”

Next, USC plays at Bethlehem Academy at 5 p.m. Thursday.
