Vikings track star enjoys reading and climbing in free time

Q: What year are you in school?

A: Senior.

 

Q: What school do you attend?

A: Northwood-Kensett

 

Q: Who is your immediate family?

A: My dad is Mike and my mom is Jackie. I have a sister Megan, 28,  and a brother Bridger, 22.

 

Q: What sports are you involved in?

A: I played basketball, track, volleyball and softball as a freshman.

 

Q: What is your favorite part of running track?

A: I really like relays. It makes track more of a team sport. Running as a relay is a lot more fun.

 

Q: What number are you?

A: In basketball I’m No. 11 and in volleyball I’m No. 7, my favorite number.

 

Q: How did you get started in track?

A: I live in Glenville, and we didn’t have track there. I enrolled in Iowa as a freshman and it was new to me.

 

Q: What sports did your family members play?

A: My brother played football, baseball and basketball. My sister played volleyball, basketball and softball.

 

Q: What are your sports-related achievements? 

A: For track I was Newcomer of the Year my freshman year and the team MVP last year. I was the Most Improved Player of the year for basketball this year.  In volleyball, I was the Most Improved Player as a junior, and this year I was given the leadership award. In cheerleading I was the Newcomer of the Year this year (fall season).

 

Q: What are your sports-related goals? 

A:  We did pretty well in basketball, one game away from state. In volleyball, we were two games away from state. We’re hoping to go to state for track. I’m thinking about cheerleading in college.

 

Q: College plans? 

A:  South Dakota State University for nursing.

 

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why? 

A: Larry Bird. I like the Celtics, and I enjoy watching basketball.

Q: What is your favorite school subject? 

A: English, because it comes easiest. I like to write.

 

Q: Who is your favorite teacher? 

A: My science teacher, Delores Knutson.

 

Q: What are your hobbies? 

A: I really enjoy rock climbing and go a couple times a week. I work at the Albert Lea Rock Gym. Sometimes I’ll go to Prairie Walls in Rochester.

 

Q: What is your dream job?

A: I would like to be a traveling nurse. You can do it in the U.S. or throughout the world. I’d like to go to Africa or the western part of the U.S.

 

Q: What is your favorite TV show?

A: I don’t really watch TV, but I read a lot of books. I liked the “Hunger Games.”

 

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Yogurt and granola.

 

Q: What is an interesting fact about you?

A: I went to a 20-day rock climbing course in Laramie, Wyo.
