After losing its first three singles matches, the Albert Lea boys’ tennis team reeled off four straight wins Tuesday at Gustavus Adolphus College to take down Mankato East 4-3.
“This was a big win for us. It was nice to get our first conference win of the season,” Tigers’ head coach Tom Dyrdal said. “This was definitely a team victory.”
Cole Keyeski earned the Tiger’s only win in singles play: 6-2 and 6-4.
“Cole improved his game as well as picking up his third victory of the season.”
Albert Lea’s doubles teams went undefeated.
“Our three doubles teams all played their best matches of the season,” Dyrdal said.
Even though No. 1, 2 and 3 singles players didn’t pick up wins, Dyrdal said he is thankful they are in his lineup.
“If Trevor (Herfindahl), Taylor (Herfindahl) and Darik (Weigel) were not in our lineup, we would not have won the match,” he said. “They are our best three players, and they take on the challenge of playing the top opponents every match.”
