NARFE

National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 469 met April 9 at the Pizza Ranch in Albert Lea. Vice President Roger Erickson led the meeting in President Jonathon Green’s absence. The Office of Personnel Management will provide information sometime this year on how annuitants can opt-in to receive their 1099R forms electronically. Items were collected for the silent auction for Alzheimers which will be held at the state convention May 21-23 in St. Cloud. The next meeting will be June 11 at the Pizza Ranch in Austin.

 

Grapevine Twist

The Grapevine Twist Square Dance Club had a dance April 13 at the Senior Center at the Skyline Mall Plaza. Mary Mehus was the caller and called to over three squares. Cake and potluck was served after the dance. Servers for the evening were Eddie and Violet Hanssen. The next dance was held Saturday. Dick Severson was the caller. Potluck was served after the dance.

 

Presbyterian Women

On April 13, 10 women attended a gathering at Rochester Presbyterian Church. The group’s numerous mission projects were contributed from everyone in the Twin Cities

presbytery for world, national and local aid and love. Attending was Sara Aeikens, Ruth Sather, Arlene Egeidal, Jan Zehnder, Marilyn Polis, Vi Moyer, Pat Lee, Betty Blankers, Irene Weber and Bev Haugen.

A spring gathering tea is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church for women. All are invited to attend. The program, “Ladies Tea,” will be presented by Mary Packer Unstead.

 

Albert Lea Rotary Club

The Albert Lea Rotary Club will host a group study exchange team from the Czech Republic and Slovakia from Monday to Friday. Rotary’s group study exchange program provides for young business and professional men and women from around the world to experience America both culturally and vocationally. Led by a Rotarian from Slovakia, this group of five young people, who are not Rotarians, work as journalists and publicists in their native country. They are scheduled to stay with several Rotary clubs around the state. While in Albert Lea they will visit businesses and participate in cultural events. In addition, the Albert Lea Rotary Club will host the team’s Minnesota farewell at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

 

Freeborn American Legion Auxiliary

The Freeborn American Legion Auxiliary held its monthly meeting on April 13 at the Freeborn Legion Hall. President Sandy Anderson called the meeting to order. The pledges were recited. The secretary and treasurer reports were given and approved as read. There were no bills to present.

The next sewing date of the Community Sewing Group will be in September. Many quilts were tied at the April sewing get together.

The auxiliary has received a department citation for membership in recognition for meeting or exceeding the 2013 Unit Numeric Objective. Anderson will put this into the history scrapbook.

The auxiliary members discussed by-laws and there were no changes to be made. It was approved for Anderson to include a copy of the auxiliary’s bylaws with the annual reports.

A discussion was held by the members present to have a no-bake bake sale as the annual fundraiser. This will take place during June and July.

Anderson had information concerning department President Raleen Tolzmann’s testimonial dinner which will be May 25. The last day to submit reservations is May 18.

The next meeting will be at 9 a.m. May 11 at the Freeborn Legion Hall.

With no other business the meeting was adjourned.
