The Albert Lea boys’ golf team improved to 4-2 in the Big Nine Conference by earning first place in a Triangular against Austin and Rochester Century Thursday afternoon.
At Green Lea Golf Course, the Tigers beat second-place Rochester Century by 14 strokes and third-place Austin by 23 strokes.
“Beating Century was big, because they made it to state last year,” Albert Lea head coach Casey McIntyre said. “There are four or five teams in the running for the conference title, and we’re included in the conversation.”
The top four scorers for Albert Lea were paired together: Lucas Peterson and Nate Stadheim, and Adam and Alex Syverson.
“They were trading shot for shot, fueling each other,” McIntyre said. “They got into a competition and it made for an interesting day.”
Alex’s score of 81 is a personal best, McIntyre said.
Next, the Tigers will play at Green Lea Golf Course against Alden-Conger at 1 p.m. today.
