An Albert Lea man has been charged with first-degree aggravated witness tampering after he allegedly threatened another man with a knife who was slated to testify in court against his father.

Freeborn County District Court issued a warrant Monday for the arrest of Robert Lee DelAngel, 19.

Court documents state DelAngel reportedly threatened the man in the parking lot of Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea on April 30 as the man was getting ready to get out of his car and go into the hospital for a pre-employment drug test. Reports stated the man was with his girlfriend and children.

DelAngel reportedly had his hands in the front pocket of his sweatshirt and at one point pulled his hand out of his pocket to reveal part of the blade of a knife, threatening the man not to show up for the court hearing for his father, Roberto Martinez DelAngel, 42.

The father faces multiple drug charges after he allegedly sold 13.9 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant during two controlled purchases in January and February.

He was previously convicted of fifth-degree possession of cocaine in May of 2004.

Assistant Freeborn County Attorney David Walker said if the son is convicted of witness tampering it carries with it a presumptive prison sentence.

It carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
