Albert Lea girls win home triangular

The Albert Lea girls’ track team beat a pair of Big Nine Conference foes Tuesday in a triangular at Jim Gustafson field.

The Tigers scored 76 points and edged Rochester Mayo by six points. Rochester John Marshall finished with 34 team points.

As temperatures soared to 100 degrees, Albert Lea won a host of running events and one field event.

Bryn Woodside won the 200-meter dash, as did Becca Dup in the 400-meter dash. Gretchen Johnson took first place in the 100-meter hurdles, and Larissa Hacker won the 300-meter hurdles. Chrissy Monson dominated the 1,600-meter run. She won the event by 12.89 seconds.

Sydney Rehnelt won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 7 3/4 inches. The jump was 11 1/4 inches farther than the second-place finisher from Rochester John Marshall.

Earning second-place finishes for Albert Lea were Danielle and Elisa Staat, Madison Carstens and Woodside.

The Albert Lea boys’ track team took third place at Rochester John Marshall. Lucas Malimanek led the Tigers by winning the 1,600-meter run in 4:59.00.

Next, the Albert Lea boys’ and girls’ teams will participate in a meet at the conference meet hosted by Rochester Century at 12:30 p.m. May 24.
