Funeral services for Shirley A. Giles, 79, of Albert Lea will beat 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Tom Biatek will officiate. Burial will be at the State Line Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Shirley died on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.

Shirley Ann Giles was born on May 3, 1934, in Gordonsville, the daughter of Vern and Esther (Boen) Barber. She was raised on the family farm in Rose Creek and attended school in Rose Creek. On June 25, 1955, she was united in marriage to Darrell Giles at the Austin United Methodist Church. Shirley worked as a waitress at the Skyline Supper Club. She enjoyed quilting, painting, flower arranging, camping and listening/playing bluegrass music. Shirley was a volunteer at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. She was a member of the Albert Lea United Methodist Church, Hope Circle, the Garden Club, Hospital Auxiliary, VFW auxiliary and the Women’s Building at the Freeborn County Fair.

Shirley is survived by her children, Les (Connie) Giles of Cleveland, Dawn (Duane) Miller of Hartland, Sherri Anderson of Albert Lea and Dave (Gravy) Giles of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Jeremy Phillips, Josh (Dawn) Giles, Jacob Giles, Chris (Kate) Wilson, Dustin (Jodie) Wilson, Angi Giles, Crystal (Alexander) Jacobsen and Justin Anderson; great-grandchildren, Kody Phillips, Garrett Giles, Dominic Dreyling, Lincoln Giles, Zander, Evan and Wyatt Jacobsen; sister, Mae Schneider; sisters-in-law, Nyla Barber and Eldora Barber; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell; brothers, James (Dorothy) Barber, Lloyd Barber and David Barber; sisters, Carol (Lawrence) Oakland, Phyllis (Miller) Jester, Laura Rayman and Ethel (Leslie) Hoffman; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Elmer (Nell) Giles, Leonard Giles, Harold (Althea) Giles, Lloyd (Nell) Giles, Marion (Ruth) Giles, Dorothy (Swede) Weigel, Eva (Howard) Feuerhelm, Beulah (Warren) Feuerhelm, Velma (Ralph) Weatherwax, Stella (Carl) Niehaus and Isabell (Bill) Schafer.
