DULUTH — A former youth basketball coach in Duluth is facing additional charges of sexually assaulting young girls.

Thirty-seven-year-old Wendell Greene is being held in the Aitkin County Jail since he was charged last June with sexually assaulting two preteen girls. The latest charges involve a girl who played in a basketball program in which Greene was a coach. She told authorities she initially had sex with Greene in the spring of 2010 when she was 14.

Greene coached for a variety of basketball programs, including middle school girls in Duluth and Hermantown. Defense attorney Thomas Skare is challenging the statements made by the girls, saying there’s evidence at least one has a problem being truthful.
