NRHEG’s Schiltz sets record, qualifies for state

Two competitors on the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva track and field team qualified Saturday for the state meet.
T.J. Schiltz secured his lane in St. Paul in the 3,200-meter and the 1,600-meter run.
Schiltz set a new school record and won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:55.45 at the Section 2A meet. He took second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:26.25.
“T.J. had a career day in his events,” NRHEG head coach Duey Ferber said.
NRHEG basketball standout Carlie Wagner also qualified for state with a high jump of 5 feet, 3 inches.
As a team, the Panthers took 16th place in the girls’ division and 18th place in the boys’ division.
Other top finishes for NRHEG were in the girls’ throwing events. Mikayla Lindell took sixth in the shot put and discus.
The state meet will be June 7-8.
