NORTHWOOD — A stabbing incident Wednesday night in Northwood injured two residents, according to Worth County Sheriff Jay Langenbau.
In custody is Donald Monte Baker, 26, of Northwood, who has been charged with felony assault.
Bennie Montgomery, 28, and Valerie Merrideth, 26, both of Northwood, were treated for injuries at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Montgomery remains hospitalized and was listed in fair condition on Thursday, according to a Mercy nursing supervisor. He was stabbed multiple times, Langenbau said.
Merrideth drove herself to Mercy where she was treated and released for less severe stab wounds, Langenbau said.
A 911 call was received about 9 p.m. Wednesday about a fight in progress at 607 Seventh St. N.
Upon arrival, deputies found Montgomery sitting on a curb with stab wounds. He was flown by Mercy Air Med to the hospital.
Langenbau said more charges may be filed once the investigation is completed.
He added there had been trouble “on-going between the men and intensified” Wednesday night.
The Sheriff’s Department is conducting the investigation and was assisted by the Manly Police Department, Northwood Fire and Rescue, Mason City Fire Department Ambulance Service and Mercy Air Life.
