STILLWATER — A Michigan man is charged with a Minnesota bank robbery and bomb threat that prompted a six-hour evacuation over the weekend.
Sixty-five-year-old David Michael Tyler of Cheboygan, Mich., was charged Monday in Washington County court with second-degree aggravated robbery.
Tyler is accused of robbing a U.S. Bank in downtown Stillwater on Saturday. According to the charges, Tyler warned that a bomb in his briefcase would level an entire city block.
Two blocks of downtown Stillwater were shut down. Police later determined the device in the briefcase was not a bomb.
The complaint alleges that Tyler demanded $200,000 in a note handed to bank employees but that he absconded with only $3,726.
Tyler was ordered to remain in jail pending an initial court appearance.
