Hunger hampers Haitian humans

I recently received this message from Love A Child orphanage in Haiti. They have been in Haiti since 1991, prior to the devastating earthquake.

“Bobby and I have lived here in Haiti for 21 years. We have seen a lot of poor, hungry people and children, but never like it has been in just the last year. It has gotten so bad that it is difficult to take garden seeds to poor villages because the children are eating them before their parents can plant them! If we take dry macaroni or powdered milk, the children will eat the dry macaroni, (even if a package falls on the ground and breaks) and they will eat it, along with the dirt. If we take powdered milk, they will eat it dry, before mixing it with water.”

“Every day, hunger stalks Haiti. The Haitian people and children have a different name for hunger; they call it ‘grangou” or ‘Clorox.’ They call any kind of bleach ‘Clorox.’ They say hunger is so horrible that they would rather die from drinking Clorox than die from hunger.

“Here in Haiti, where hunger surrounds us, we find that many mothers opt to boil water and pour salt in it and have their children drink it, just so they can get the “taste” in their mouths and have ‘something’ to put into their stomachs. Imagine being a mother or father and having to live like this, day after day. That is why we are taking the biggest step we have ever taken to fill our food distribution center with food so that little children won’t have to drink salt water.”

Love A Child orphanage receives food from Feed My Starving Children. In the past two weeks Feed My Starving Children has shipped 1,492,992 meals to Haiti. But in order to continue to save people that are dying from malnutrition, they need your help. Each meal feeds 5 to 6 people and only costs 22 cents to produce. Should where you live decide if you live?
