Can you name that TV show theme song?

Column: Something About Nothing
I happened to be dozing on the couch the other night when the music I heard coming from the television perked me up. I knew by the music that “Hawaii Five-O” was on, and it was time to open my eyes and gaze at my TV screen.
As I was moving through my kid years and teenage years and young adult years, it wasn’t hard to know what was playing on the TV in the other room. A theme song for a certain show would start playing and you knew exactly what time it was and what show was on the television before you even peeked at the screen. I miss TV theme songs.
The theme song from “Hawaii Five-O” reminds me of the “Hawaii Five-O” that was on between 1968 and 1980. It starred Jack Lord and the cute James MacArthur.
I thought I would revisit some words from past TV shows. I will give you a few lines and see if you can guess what television show the theme song was from.
1. Come ’n’ listen to my story ’bout a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed.
2. Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from your worries would sure help a lot.
3. Just the good old boys, never meanin’ no harm.
4. They’re a page out of history; let’s ride with the family down the street
5. But I’ll be there for you when the rain starts to pour;
I’ll be there for you like I’ve been there before.
6. Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip.
7. Go right to the source and ask the horse.
He’ll give you the answer that you’ll endorse.
8. Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, keep movin’, movin’, movin’.
9. Saturday, what a day, rockin’ all week with you.
10. Songs that made the hit parade; guys like us that had it made.
If you are over 30 some of those words will bring back memories. Theme songs aren’t as popular these days. I can’t help but think our younger generation is missing something. The words above are not necessarily the first words of the song. I didn’t want to give it away.
There are also many different theme songs that didn’t have any words. Close your eyes and see if you can remember these theme songs in your head: “Bonanza,” “Batman,” “Chips,” “Dallas,” “Dragnet,” “Magnum P.I.” and “St. Elsewhere,” to name a few.
It was hard to pick a few from so many outstanding shows. I didn’t have enough room to include “The Brady Bunch.” Who could forget the lovely lady that was bringing up three lovely girls? Who didn’t smile with the girl that could turn the world on with her smile as the “Mary Tyler Moore Show” popped up on the screen?
I wonder what would happen if we each had a theme song and every time we walked into the room the music would be identified with us. What theme song would you write about your life?
Would it be fast and catchy or would it be slow and moody? Would your theme song hold intrigue and mystery or would it ooze love and laughter? Would it make people laugh and draw them near you or would it make them hide or run the other way?
If you are stumped for the answers to the theme-song questions you can get the answers on my blog at www.thankfuljoy.com. They will be on the Monday post. If computers aren’t your thing, I will pen the answers into my column next week and you can see if you can find them.
Happy humming.
