The Albert Lea superintendent has received resignations from two principals.
Both Southwest Middle School Principal Jean Jordan and Lakeview Elementary School Principal Eric Hudspith gave their resignations to Superintendent Mike Funk.
Jordan got a position as director of educational services at Intermediate School District 916, a consortium of school districts in the northeast metro area.
Hudspith resigned after taking an elementary principal position in Mankato. His wife, a math teacher at Southwest, also resigned.
Funk said he thinks it reflects well on the district that employees are hired at larger districts, but that it is frustrating to lose staff.
“It’s a challenge for us as a district,” Funk said. “These are pretty competitive jobs; it shows the quality of the people we’re hiring.”
Funk also updated the board about security at school buildings. All four elementary buildings, Southwest and Albert Lea High School will have doors locked during school days, and visitors can enter by getting buzzed in by someone in the main office. The office staff can see who is at the door via cameras.
The district is looking at what to do with about $320,000 of compensatory pilot funds, and Funk said they want to look at having a district math coach, social science coach and a secondary education coordinator. The positions would be funded for two years, and the district needs to have a plan by the end of July.
