Community shows great support

Thank you, community, for the wonderful support you gave to the recent fundraising Parkinson’s walk sponsored by the Southern Minnesota Parkinson Support Group and the American Parkinson Disease Association.

There are so many worthy fundraising events, and our businesses so generously support many of them. There are too many businesses to list in this letter; however, we send a big thank you to them and to all the people who supported us financially as well as with words of encouragement to the many people who struggle with this devastating disease.

We have raised more than $16,000 that will go to research, education and assisting those individuals with Parkinson’s disease in whatever way we can. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel knowing the sacrifice it takes for many to support the walk. Thank you again.

This past year the Southern Minnesota Parkinson Support Group, with partial funding provided from the Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services’ Operation Round-Up, was able to donate a large television and a DVD player to the Albert Lea Senior Center. The Senior Center provides our support group a place to meet monthly. This enables us to use the TV and DVD player for some of our programming.

The Southern Minnesota Parkinson Support Group is open and welcoming to anyone touched by Parkinson’s. We meet monthly on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Senior Center in the Skyline Plaza, Albert Lea. For more information call: Anne Troska, 874-3367, or me, 373-1808.
