Growing up I had to always watch my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles play card games. I so desperately wanted to join them, but, of course, I wasn’t old enough. Now that I’m “old enough” I get to play whatever I want and whenever I want. Not only that, I get to take my turn at being the adult with no kids allowed.
I love to play games with my family. It is a great way to have fun and enjoy each other’s company. I can’t wait for the day I can teach my kids how to play and get to enjoy that time with them. It is a great activity to bond over. Games are also a great thing for cabin fever.
I think playing also brings out your true side of competitiveness. I know I don’t like to lose. With that said, I might not be the most fun to play with at times. It runs in the family, so I can’t feel too bad. Despite our competitiveness, my sisters and I pretty much read each other’s minds in Taboo. We honestly can’t be beat.
My most-cherished memories of playing cards is with my grandparents, who live 12 hours away in Kansas. We do not miss a chance of playing our favorite games with them especially since those times are few and far between. They have taught me all there is to know about most of my favorite games.
Many of these games have several different names or are played very differently to many people. I, of course, think the versions I play are the best. Most take lots of strategy and quick thinking. If you ever are interested in learning one of these games, I’d be more than willing to share.
