Mayo handed the Albert Lea volleyball team a three-set loss Thursday in Rochester, but Tigers head coach Jamie Mauseth came away from the match impressed with how her team performed against the Spartans.
Albert Lea (0-4, 0-3 Big Nine) communicated and served better than it has this season and played well in the third set despite being down.
Mayo won the first two sets 25-17, but the Tigers came back in the third set and fell only 25-23.
“The score didn’t show how well that we played,” Mauseth said. “They’re a really good team, but we rose up and gave them a run for their money.”
Albert Lea missed just five serves in the match.
Kristine Kelly and Annie Ladwig led Albert Lea with four kills and London Avery added three.
Caylee Tennis recorded 11 assists while Courtney Schnaith had 12 digs.
Kelly and Avery each had eight digs and Tennis added six.
The Tigers travel to Hayfield Saturday for the Hayfield Invitational tournament.
