The Freeborn County Humane Society is hosting a special adoption event this week to find homes for the cats and kittens in its animal shelter.

Starting Thursday and running until Saturday, people can come into the shelter and set their own adoption fees, with a minimum fee of $15.

Any additional donations are welcome, said Christa Stieler, director of the society.

“It’s a great time to adopt as far as adoption fees go,” Stieler said.

All of the adult cats are spayed or neutered and are up to date on vaccinations. The cost for spaying or neutering kittens is also included in the minimum fee.

She described the shelter as “full but not overcrowded” for felines. Usually there are around 30 cats at the shelter, and presently, there are at least 50, she said.

Applications are required and include questions about personal information, a veterinarian reference and plans for the cats. Stieler said it would be helpful to fill out the application ahead of time, but applications are available at the shelter.

People can also preview the animals through a link on the Humane Society’s website at www.hsffc.org.

The shelter is at 101 James Ave., just south of the boat landing in Frank Hall Park. It will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
