The man who was reportedly pinned by a large coil of steel on Thursday at the Streater Inc. building in Albert Lea is being treated for leg injuries at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, a Streater spokesman said Friday.
Kevin Davis, director of human resources at Streater, said there is limited information that he could give about the man who received the injuries until an internal investigation into the incident has been completed.
The man, whose name and age have not been released, was reportedly pinned just before 7 a.m. Thursday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual and his family,” Davis said.
He noted the company investigation should discover how and what took place during the incident.
James Honerman, communications director with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, said an OSHA complaint has not been filed in the case by the company or by any other parties.
Honerman said generally in the case of a workplace injury, companies are not required to notify OSHA unless that injury affected three or four people or involved a fatality.
“We do not believe there was a safety violation, but even that is premature to say at this point,” Davis said.
“It’s a detailed thing to work through.”
Streater, which makes store fixtures such as shelves and cases, is headquartered in Albert Lea, opening in 1917.
In 2000, Streater became a part of the Marmon Retail Services group of companies.
