Kiester hosts threshing festival

KIESTER — The annual Threshing Festival in Kiester has the slogan: “Where an old farm comes to life, and you meet old and new friends.”

For the past 30 years, friends have met at the festival, which will happen this Saturday and Sunday in Kiester.

The 2013 feature at the festival is Case tractors and machinery. There will be a drawing for a Case VAC tractor. Even though Case is the featured tractor this year, all tractors, machinery, horses and mulemen are welcomed to exhibit, according to organizers.

Admission to the festival is $6 for adults, and there is a free keepsake button given away with admission. Children 12 years old and under are free.

Saturday’s events include bingo, storyteller Al Batt, a Gettysburg presentation by Ryan Stout, a parade and the day is capped off by a soup supper.

Sunday will start off with a church service, which will be followed by a pancake breakfast. A children’s pedal pull will take place at noon, followed by the second parade of the weekend. Following the parade will be the ninth annual singles cribbage tournament. The drawing for the tractor and other prizes will be at 4 p.m.

There will be food stands at the festival and plenty of activities for children including horse and wagon rides, a children’s barnyard and a playground.

There is no charge for camping in primitive area, and a limited number of sites are available in the electric area by paid reservation only. Reservations can be made by calling 507-294-3142.
