This little town of 26 people is hosting its seventh annual Bolan Fall Market on Sept. 19.

Bolan is in Worth County about six miles southeast of Northwood.

The United Methodist Church is hosting its traditional bazaar 8 to 11 a.m. A variety of market vendors under the big maple trees and along Tulip Lane will be selling goods from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bike and tractor rides

Registration for a bike ride and a tractor ride begins at 8 a.m., with the participants leaving at 9 a.m.

The riders will travel from Bolan though the neighboring communities of Plymouth, Rock Falls, Grafton and Carpenter. A highlight on the route will be the paved path to the historic, wooden, covered bridge along the Shell Rock River in Rock Falls.

The following demonstrations will begin at noon: walleye cheek tasting, glass bead making, cider making, and rug hooking.

Local keyboard musician, Kermit Huebner will play from 8 to 10 a.m. The band Bolder Road featuring Bill Grant on guitar will perform from 10 a.m. to noon.

Turkey burgers, turkey tenders, brats, hot dogs, tator ribbons, super nachos, strawberry smoothies, mini-donuts, homemade pies, ice cream and popcorn will be available for purchase.

Wine tasting

A special wine tasting hosted by the Bolan Schoolhouse & Cultural Center will be from noon to 3 p.m. For a $10 donation, participants can experience appetizers and wine tasting from five Iowa wineries: Bel-Aire Estates of St. Ansgar, Little Swan Lake of Estherville, Mount Valley Vineyard of Forest City, Tabor Home of Baldwin and Wnneshiek Wildberry of Decorah.

Open Road featuring St. Ansgar native Betsy (Neerhof) Storlie will perform. Commemorative wine glasses will be for sale. Sponsors of this event are Hy-Vee East, Farmers State Bank, Fallgatters, Kenison Construction, S&L Masonry, Bolan Storage.

This nonprofit organization is raising funds toward the restoration of the 1923 Barton No. 2 two-room school. Once completed, the lower level will serve as a community center and location to host entertaining and cultural events. The upper level will display educational memorabilia spanning the years 1923-56, and possible gift shop.
