An Albert Lea man on Thursday was sentenced to 2 years and 10 months in prison for selling methamphetamine to an informant.

Roberto Martinez DelAngel, 43, pleaded guilty in July to third-degree drug sales, a felony. The plea was classified as an Alford plea, in which a defendant maintains his innocence but recognizes there is sufficient evidence to convict, usually of stiffer penalties.

DelAngel initially faced charges for two drug sales.

According to court records, DelAngel sold the drug to an informant working for the South Central Drug Investigative Unit at his home at 507 Triangle Drive.

The informant was equipped with money and a recorder before the sale earlier this year.

Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning said DelAngel will receive credit for 212 days already spent in the Freeborn County jail since his arrest. He must spend at least two-thirds of his sentence in prison, while the remaining one-third can be spent on supervised release.

DelAngel was convicted in 2004 of fifth-degree cocaine possession.
