WELLS — More than 400 children will get a chance to learn about safety on the farm at a program on Tuesday.

The annual FFA farm safety program will be at United South Central School in Wells starting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The program runs from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The program is presented by seniors from USC High School. It happens annually during National Farm Safety Week. The program is meant to raise awareness to the many dangers that can happen in rural areas.

Students in kindergarten through eighth-grade from United South Central and St. Casimir’s Catholic School will attend. The public is also invited, and parents are encouraged to bring children to learn about farm safety.

Farming implements are often brought in by area retailers. Stations will have older students teaching the children how to be safe around augers, tractors, lawnmowers, combines and grain trucks. Children can also learn more about electricity and how to be safe around wires. Other local presenters will attend including ambulance and fire department staff.
