Bud died on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at the age of 87 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna after battling pulmonary fibrosis lung disease.
Bud Carroll was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Onida, S.D., the son of Ralph and Helen Carroll. After helping his parents on the farm, he entered the Navy and served one year from 1944 to 1945. He married Marie Haberman on Jan. 19, 1950, in Geneva. They resided in Ellendale all their married life. He worked for Misgen trucking, Harry Farr Construction and for 32 years at Ulland Brothers Construction until his retirement in November 1989.
Bud enjoyed traveling throughout the country, going to bluegrass festivals and spending many winters in Florida and Texas. He also enjoyed word puzzles, visiting with the local guys at the “round table,” and spending a lot of time watching the cars go by as he would sit out in his lawn chair. His family was very important to him, and he enjoyed spending time with all of them. He will be loved, remembered and sadly missed by his family.
Bud is survived by his wife, Marie, of Ellendale; children Patti (Wendell) Nesse of Albert Lea, Jackie (Doug) Boerner of Owatonna, Gordy (Karol) Carroll of Rochester and Dan (Renea) Carroll of Ellendale; and special brother-in-law, David (Butch) Haberman, of Janesville. Grandchildren include Angie (Eric) Behrens, Nicholas (Malissa) Nesse, Bridget (Jerrid) Schindle, Brandt (Rhiannon) Boerner, Kara (Ray) Peters, Tony (Tammy) Carroll, Bob Carroll, Jordan Carroll and Travis Carroll. Twelve great-grandchildren also survive. Other survivors include two brothers Dick (Carol) Carroll of Owatonna and Lester (Gloria) Carroll of LaMar, Mo.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Leonard and Glenn.
