CONGER — The Alden-Conger High School supermileage team wants old cellphones.
The team won’t be using the phones for the reason that many high-schoolers use theirs. They will recycle the donated phones and printer cartridges as a fundraiser for the school’s supermileage team.
The team’s adviser, David Bosma, said that the recycling program has been going on for around five or six years. Even though the payout from them is not high, everything helps.
The team does more in terms of fundraising than just collecting phones.
“We got the pancake breakfast, which we do in November,” Bosma said, adding that this year’s breakfast will be Nov. 17. “We do just business donations, too, where they get their names on the car and on the trailer.”
Bosma said the team raised more the $15,000 last year and said that they were shooting for around the same amount this year. The students on the team are responsible for seeking out potential business that would be interested in donating. Businesses that donate will get their name on the car, and business that donate above a certain amount will get their name on the hauler.
Any person or business interested in donating, or anyone interested in donating an old cellphone, can contact the Alden-Conger at 507-874-3240.
