On Nov. 1, the Albert Lea High School band department will present its first concert of the year. The concert will include each band performing one themed piece in honor of Halloween the night before. The performance will be at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium, and will feature the Tiger band, symphonic band and concert band. Tickets are available at the door, and are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Children preschool age and under are free. There is also a $35 family pass available for purchase. This pass is good for all band, choir and orchestra concerts for the rest of the school year.
The Tiger band, which is made up of eighth and ninth grade students, will perform three works, including “Of Wizards and Warriors” by Roland Barrett. The ninth and 10th grade symphonic band will perform “Bella’s Lullaby,” from the movie “Twilight,” as one of its three pieces. The concert band, made up of mostly juniors and seniors, will perform four pieces. Their Halloween themed piece is “Return of the Night Riders” by Darren W. Jenkins. They will also perform “Triumphant Fanfare” by Richard L. Saucedo, “Lament and Tribal Dances” by Michael Sweeney, and “Ashokan Farewell” from Ken Burns’ PBS documentary “The Civil War.”
