Douglas Herr

Douglas Ronald Herr died on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at home surrounded by his family after his battle with cancer. Doug was born on Aug. 31, 1966, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the son of James and Lucinda (Klink) Herr. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School and attended Ellsworth Community College.

Doug started his career at Supervalu in Iowa Falls, worked at Hy-Vee in Mason City and had served as kitchen manager at Hy-Vee in Albert Lea since 1997. Doug was a very diligent, loyal and proud member of the Hy-Vee family. He was the helpful smile in every aisle. Doug was awarded recently for his 20 years of service with Hy-Vee.

He was united in marriage to Brenda Krueger on July 3, 1999, in Albert Lea. Their special day’s celebration included the wedding party participating in the local holiday parade through town. From this marriage three children were born, Makenzie, Addison and Nathan. It became a family of seven with Doug’s two sons Michael and Mason.

Doug is a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Iowa Falls rugby team and the River City rugby team of Mason City. He enjoyed all things life has to offer, especially golfing, hunting, snowmobiling, fishing, four-wheeling and being surrounded by the company of his friends.

Doug’s greatest joy came from the pride and love he had for his family. He always had a smile on his face. He was witty, positive, hard-working, outgoing and compassionate. He was known for making sure everyone was taken care of and having fun. He was a go-getter who rarely had down time. He wore a huge smile and walked with a bounce in his step. Being around people was his therapy.

His loving family includes wife, Brenda; children Michael of Sheldon, Iowa, Mason, of Hubbard, Iowa, and Makenzie, Addison and his “little buddy” Nathan, all of Albert Lea; his parents James and Lucinda Herr of Sun City West, Ariz.; brother, Jason (Shyla) Herr of Libertyville, Ill.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nordean and Dorothy Krueger of Albert Lea; grandmother-in-law, Hazel Krueger of Albert Lea; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Mike (Lavonne) Krueger of Alden, Rick (Tammy) Krueger of Albert Lea, Sue (Mark) Horejsi of Albert Lea and Brent (Lori) Krueger of Albert Lea; nieces and nephews Zachary Herr, Luke Herr, Hollie (Ryan) Draayer and their children Riley and Emery, Nicole Krueger, Jennifer Krueger, Nadean Krueger, Stacy Krueger, Justin (Lindsey) Krueger, Ashley Krueger and her son, Brantley, Krista (Tony) Linn and their daughter, Lilly, Amy Horejsi and Lindsey Horejsi; several aunts, uncles and the friends he called a second family.

The family so cherishes all the love, strength and support they have received along Doug’s journey.
