A 27-year-old Albert Lea man was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester Saturday night after he was reportedly struck in the head with a baseball bat during an altercation on Abbott Street.
Albert Lea police arrested Abrham Rodriguez, 24, of Albert Lea, for first-degree assault and Joel Rodriguez, 21, of Carroll, Iowa, for second-degree assault and aiding and abetting first-degree assault.
The men are being held in the Freeborn County jail pending formal charges. They are expected to be charged on Tuesday because the Freeborn County courthouse was closed today for Veterans Day.
Police also cited 18-year-old Jesus Fabian Mendez, of Austin, for underage drinking.
According to a news release, police were dispatched to 1010 Abbott Street at 9:56 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of vehicles that were attempting to run people over.
Officers were told there was a possible stabbing and were given a description of a suspect vehicle that had left the scene.
A short distance away, officers found the vehicle matching the description and stopped the vehicle. Baseball bats were found inside the vehicle.
The officers found that the Albert Lea man had not been stabbed but was suffering from blunt force trauma to the head.
His condition this morning is unknown. Look to the Tribune for more information.
