It’s hard to go to court hearing while in jail

An Albert Lea man failed to appear Tuesday for a plea-change hearing on assault and burglary charges he faces in Winnebago County District Court in Forest City, Iowa.
The reason Spencer Adams Edwards failed to appear, however, is he was locked up in the Freeborn County jail. He has been in the jail since Nov. 6 for alleged violations of his probation in Freeborn County.
Winnebago County issued a warrant for the man’s arrest, though he was in custody one county over across a state line.
Edwards was among three men and two women arrested following the Jan. 17 beating of Jaimyan DaVeiga at his home in Lake Mills. DaVeiga is the son of Tribune Classifieds Account Executive Michelle DaVeiga. Edwards was charged with first-degree burglary and assault while participating in a felony.
Edwards had been expected to change his not guilty plea to guilty on Tuesday.
The other two men arrested were David Rodriguez and Cory Doyle, who face the same charges, and the two women arrested were Cassandra Slater and Tanelle Roberts, who face charges of aiding and abetting first-degree burglary.
