MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis police chief said the officer involved in a fatal crash with a motorcyclist last May won’t face discipline or criminal charges.

Police Chief Janee Harteau said Thursday the officer, Joshua Young, was not “over the line” as he headed to the scene of a fatal shooting. Twenty-four-year-old Ivan Olivares died when his motorcycle slid into the officer’s SUV at a Minneapolis intersection.

Harteau said the investigation shows the officer weaved through traffic and entered the intersection on a red light at 16 to 17 mph. The police SUV had its lights and siren activated at the time of the collision.

The officer was responding to the house where police officers had shot and killed Terrance Franklin May 10.
