ST. LOUIS PARK — Authorities and a family attorney said two of the five children in a car that left a highway ramp and plunged into an ice-cold pond in suburban Minneapolis have died.
The mother of three of the children was driving and made it out on her own after the car became submerged in the water in St. Louis Park Thursday.
The State Patrol says 5-year-old Zenavia Rennie died Thursday night. Family attorney Rick Petry said 7-year-old Alarious Coleman-Guerrido also died Thursday night. He said the other children remain hospitalized in critical condition. The mother, Marion Guerrido, of Brooklyn Center, was not hospitalized.
State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said the first child was pulled from the water about 25 minutes after the crash was reported about 6:10 a.m.
The last child was removed 45 minutes after the car became submerged near Highways 7 and 100.
