Column: Something About Nothing, by Julie Seedorf
It is the week of Thanksgiving. People are hurrying and scurrying to get all their preparations done for Thanksgiving dinner. Organizations that provide meals for people who are alone or can’t afford the price of a Thanksgiving dinner are busy with preparations to serve a free meal on Thanksgiving Day. Along with that, it is a day to be thankful.
These are the things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving.
I am thankful for my family, my friends and the fact that I have something I love to keep me busy. I am thankful for my plumber who fixed my broken bathroom. I am thankful for my new glasses. This blind blonde-gray-haired person can now see. I am thankful for my cats that bring life to my dull household. I am thankful for the laughter and wisdom of my children and grandchildren. I am thankful for my husband of 43 years. I am thankful that I get a chance to share my opinion with other people.
My list could go on and on and on. On any given day, there is always something to be thankful for.
Here are some of the things my readers are thankful for:
• “I’m thankful for my family who love me and are always willing to help, for the freedoms we enjoy, and most of all, for my lord, Jesus, who is always ready to forgive and loves me in spite of myself!” — Blanche Manos, author of “Grave Shift”
• “I am thankful for all of my wonderful authors and the amazing stories they have written that I have had the privilege to publish.” — Patricia Rockwell, publisher of Cozy Cat Press
• “By those who surround me.” — Andrea Groskreutz
• “I am thankful for a sound mind, an active spirit, the drive to help others, the wonderful people in my life and the receipt of support whenever I need it most.” — Steve Kaminski, author of “Don’t Cry Over Killed Milk”
• “I am so blessed. God has taken care of me. I have a wonderful belief in him and he is taking care of me. I am so blessed with wonderful family, friends and co-workers. Over my years I have met so many wonderful people who have helped me and they many not even know it. I want to take time to thank everyone who has touched my life in one way or another. I am so blessed!” — Sue Grunzke
• “I am thankful for a loving family, good health, creative gifts and the outlets to nurture them, and the desire and opportunity to help others find and express their authentic artistic voices.” — Amy Beth Arkawy, author and host of the “Amy Beth Arkawy Blog Talk Radio Show”
• “I am thankful for my granddaughter Sanne. She is our only grandchild and so very special. She’s everything I have dreamed of. Healthy, cute, smart and just a joy to be around.” — Cecile Schnebly
• “I’m thankful for good health, good job, place to live, dependable car, friends, my parish and that CCP has just published my new book!” — Sally Carpenter, author of “The Sinister Sitcom Caper”
• “I’m thankful for my husband for being such a wonderful friend and father, our daughter Alyson for being so inspirational and compassionate, our daughter Samantha for being so caring and silly and our oldest daughter Brooke for working so hard at college. I am thankful for my work family. I am especially grateful this year for my mom and ‘Momma’ Donna continuing to be cancer-free.” — Nicole Swanson, editor and owner of The (Kiester) Courier Sentinel
• “I am thankful for the grace of God in my life every day.” — Hilary Korynta, youth pastor for Wells Assembly of God
• “I am thankful that my family is healthy and happy.” — Brenda Hubbard
• “I am thankful I have a job.” — Lee Stansfield, author of the “Madeline Teahouse Series”
• “I am thankful for friends and family.” — Susan Klingbeil Hanson
• “I am thankful that my husband and I made it to retirement. Seemed like it was a long time coming.” — Val Forsythe
My Thanksgiving wish for you is to pause a moment to remember your blessings and share them with each other. Sharing your gratitude and blessings has a magical effect on others.
Happy Thanksgiving.
