Column: A Happy Medium, by Erin Murtaugh
Happy Thanksgiving!
Here goes a very cliche column on what I’m thankful for. I promise I’ll keep it short, sweet and to the point.
Family
I am thankful for both sides of my family. I also count a lot of my friends as family members. Most of my dad’s side of the family lives close to the area, so I see them more frequently.
Usually, I only get to see my mom’s side of the family on holidays, so I’m extra grateful when I get to spend time with them. Today I’ll be in Mankato with my mom’s side to celebrate a day of thanks. But we should give thanks every day, right?
Music
This year more than ever I’ve found myself extremely passionate for choir. I find myself constantly singing to the radio, humming or whistling. I’m either always making or listening to music. My violin is also a big part of my life.
Art
Being able to sit back and paint, draw or work on photos is a big outlet of stress for me. I’m glad I’ve found what I’m passionate about and can make art whenever I want. I’m extremely excited to start school and have art as my major. What’s better than doing what you love every day?
My jobs
I basically work two jobs. Photography and Kwik Trip are what I consider as jobs although I find myself doing some other things here and there. The main thing I love about doing photography as a job is that I can capture life as it happens for people. At Kwik Trip, I love getting to interact with people and the fast-paced, upbeat work environment. Plus, today is my very first day at the brand new store. Come check it out!
I’m thankful for a lot more than I have just shared with you, but you should go spend time with your family and reflect on what you’re thankful for rather than reading my column. So eat lots of turkey, have some pie and don’t go crazy on Black Friday shopping, especially if it’s not even Friday yet.
