The Albert Lea High School ‘Cat’aclysmic show choir will host their annual show choir competition on March 26. This marks the 16th year of this event and brings in schools from all over for a day of entertainment and friendly competition.
The day will begin at 9:15 a.m. with schools from junior high, prep, class B, and class A divisions. Albert Lea’s Southwest Middle School show choir, Blue Sky, will perform at 9:15 a.m. and Albert Lea’s SASS group will compete about 10:25 a.m. After lunch, more schools will compete beginning at 1:15 p.m. Albert Lea ‘Cat’aclysmic will perform at the end of the afternoon in exhibition at 5:05 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. to start out the finals show.
Each choir performs for 25 minutes and meets with an adjudicator for a short critique while watching their performance on a videotape. At the end of the daytime competition, the top three winners from each class will be announced and the top five scoring teams will be announced. The grand finale for the day will be the finals show beginning at 7 p.m. featuring these five groups competing all over again for the championship trophies.
The show choir students and their parents work hard to put together a great day complete with food and decorations. Anyone who has seen this show knows that it is an incredible day of amazing student performances.
