Albert Lea wrestler returns to sport for senior season
Q: What year are you in school?
A: I’m a senior.
Q: What school do you attend?
A: Albert Lea High School.
Q: Who is your immediate family?
A: Alex Skaar is my stepdad. My mom is Kisti Skaar, and I have a sister, Ashton.
Q: What sports are you involved in?
A: I wrestle and play football.
Q: What is your favorite part of wrestling?
A: I like being together as a team, making memories and winning.
Q: What has playing sports at Albert Lea taught you?
A: It’s taught me a lot of things. It’s made me more disciplined, and you learn that you get what you put in. Depending on how hard you want to work, that’s what you get out of it. I’ve become a lot more responsible, and that’s made me a better person.
Q: How did you start wrestling?
A: When I was in kindergarten. I’ve been wrestling up until my junior year and now my senior year. I took last year off to focus on school and academics.
Q: Did Albert Lea wrestling head coach, Larry Goodnature, recruit you to come back out?
A: Yeah. I talked to all the coaches. I missed it and decided to come back out.
Q: What sports did your family members play?
A: My stepdad, Alex, he was a wrestler here. Neal Skaar (an Albert Lea assistant wrestling coach) is my stepgrandpa. He (Alex) wrestled in college at Luther (College) and so did Neal.
Q: What are your sports-related achievements?
A: I placed at the Rumble on the Red, the big wrestling tournament in Fargo, N.D.
Q: What are your sports-related goals?
A: I want to place at state as a team and as an individual.
Q: What are your college plans?
A: I’m going to go to St. Cloud State for computer science.
Q: What is your favorite school subject?
A: Math. I’m taking trigonometry right now.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher?
A: Neal Skaar. I have him for English and media studies, and he’s definitely my favorite.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I like hanging out with friends and listening to music. I also work out and lift weights.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: I want to be a studio engineer because I love music so much. Plus, I like working with computers.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Pepperoni pizza. It’s such a typical answer, but it really is my favorite food.
Q: What is an interesting fact about you?
A: I like every kind of music except country. I love classic rock like Pink Floyd, and I like some of the newer stuff like hip-hop and all that stuff. Country is the one thing I can’t stand.
