The Albert Lea wrestling team won 13 of 14 matches, and the lone one the Tigers lost was a 1-0 decision Thursday at Austin.
When six falls, three decisions, two major decisions and two forfeits were totaled, Albert Lea beat the Packers 65-3.
“I definitely saw improvement. Everybody wrestled better than they did last time out there,” said Albert Lea head coach Larry Goodnature. “This team is very aggressive, and I like that.
Albert Lea played with fire from the start. Garrett Aldrich and Gavin Ignaszewski set the tone for the rest of the meet by pinning their opponents at 106 and 113 pounds.
Blake Simon, Devin Nelson, Tanner Palmer and William Mendez also won by fall.
“Six falls, that’s your home run,” Goodnature said. “I was pleased with how we wrestled tonight. There was team effort, and the kids had fun. They gained some confidence.”
Beau Johnsrud and Tristan Westerlund won by forfeit.
Bryce Hoyt and Mason Hammer won by major decisions, and Santana Acosta, Derek Samudio and Tim Christianson won by decisions.
Albert Lea is ranked No. 10 in Class AA of the Guillotine’s poll released Nov. 29.
Individual Tigers who are ranked are Aldrich, No. 8 at 106 pounds; Johnsrud, No. 8 at 126 pounds; and Westerlund, No. 2 at 195 pounds.
Next, Albert Lea will compete in a triangular with Grand Meadow and Plainview-Elgin-Millville at Plainview at 5 p.m. Dec. 13. The Tigers’ next Big Nine Meet is Dec. 19 at Faribault.
