Facing a jury trial next month after a mistrial in January — plus an alleged case of fleeing police in April — Richard David Scheib pleaded guilty Tuesday in Freeborn County District Court to sex with children.
Scheib’s sentencing will be July 26.
Scheib’s charges had been two counts of first-degree sexual conduct with sexual penetration, involving two girls, who were ages 11 and 9 at the time. He also faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the second-degree, one count for each of the two girls. The trial was slated to begin July 12.
As part of a plea agreement, the 35-year-old pleaded guilty Tuesday to criminal sexual conduct in the second degree with a person younger than 16 involving multiple acts.
According to court papers, detective Frank Kohl interviewed the girls, who were allegedly sexually assaulted in 2008, and they described suspicions found in a diary and how they were to keep the contact a secret.
The mistrial in January stems from Scheib’s Facebook account; he was found to have made friends with jurors.
Scheib’s fleeing charges stem from an incident on April 26, when he allegedly led police officers on a three-mile chase from the Freeborn County Courthouse to South Margaretha Avenue. He is scheduled to appear in court on a fleeing charge on July 12 at 1 p.m.
