Richard Ervin Mickelson, 81, of Austin, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.

He was born Jan. 6, 1930, in Austin to Ervin and Irene (Petrehn) Mickelson. After graduating from Austin High School in 1948, he attended Austin Junior College. He joined the National Guard and served in the Korean War from January 1951 until October 1952. On June 10, 1951, Richard married Joan Northwick at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.

He worked with his father at Mickelson Concrete Products until he bought his own business, Concrete Units Inc., where he worked until his retirement in 1989. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Austin Contractors Association, Richard enjoyed spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife Joan; son Steven of Austin; daughters Susan (Wayne) Pasmick of Ely, Minn. and Anne (Christopher) Wagner of Bloomington, Minn.; four grandchildren Andrew and Paige Wagner, Laura and Brooke Pasmick. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 17, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ron Barnett officiating. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
