KIESTER — ’Tis the season to be jolly and put up a Christmas tree. And if someone wants a real tree, Rustic Pines Tree Farm & Crafts has them.
Rustic Pines Tree Farm, owned by Keith and Carol Rinehart, has been selling trees to the people of southern Minnesota since 1999. Its first crop of trees were planted in 1993. It has around 3,000 evergreen trees that take up three of the farm’s 10 acres.
Like many tree farms, Rustic Pines allows people to select and cut down their own tree. The farm has 10 different varieties.
The farm is south of Kiester on the Iowa border. There is a craft shop heated by a wood-burning stove.
Customers can enjoy hot cider and coffee while listening to Christmas music. The tree farm’s website states that there is “everything from woodworking to Christmas tree ornaments.”
During the Christmas season there is also a variety of spruce tips, garlands and wreaths available.
The tree farm does not go dormant after the holiday season is over. It offers tree spading and nursery stock available for spring planting. Using a tree spade is a way to make an instant windbreak. Nursery stock is available on a custom-order basis.
