Angelita Diokno Salas, 65, of Wells, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at home of complications from illness. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The Rev. Angelita was born May 10, 1948, in the Philippines, to Juan and Matienza (Mateo) Diokno. She was united in marriage to Ernesto Tamayo Salas on Aug. 11, 1963. Angelita moved to the United States in 1979 to begin work at the Banquet factory. She also worked at Del Monte until her retirement in 1992. Angelita enjoyed camping, fishing, playing bingo and eating out —especially Chinese food. She loved spending time with her family and going for walks. Angelita was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, and she attended church every Sunday until she fell ill.
Angelita is survived by her husband Ernesto; six children Emily (Thad) Amberg of Bricelyn, Edith (Tony) Gonsalez of Wells, Eddie Salas of the Philippines, Erlinda (Mike) Shepherd of Wells, Ester (Kevin) Freeman of Murray, Ky., and Elsie Derstine of Wells; 18 grandchildren Jeremiah Amberg, Zach Amberg, Seth Amberg, Kirsten Amberg, Roan Kimpton, Rana Anderson, Ernest Robledo, Andrew Salas, Angie Salas, Melinda Shepherd, M.J. Shepherd, Jonathan Higgins, James Higgins, Jordan Higgins, Matthew Freeman, Ryan Yanson, Semantha Hong and Semuel Hong; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters Mercy Diokno and Fely Diokno.
