The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team fell to Mankato West 4-0 Tuesday at the Albert Lea City Arena.
“I think our boys worked very hard against an opponent that was very good,” said Albert Lea head coach Roy Nystrom.
The game was scoreless after the first period, and both teams had seven shots on goal.
However, the Scarlets outshot the Tigers 20-6 in the second period and 14-7 in the third period.
Albert Lea goalie Garrett Matz earned a save percentage over .900, but gave up three goals in the second and one in the third.
“Garrett had an outstanding game in the net,” Nystrom said.
Next, Albert Lea (3-3 overall, 2-3 Big Nine Conference) will play at Rochester Mayo at 3 p.m., Saturday.
The Spartans (4-2 overall, 3-0 Big Nine Conference) are coming off a 5-1 loss at Hastings.
