Phyllis DeVries, 78, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Phyllis Elaine DeVries of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. Bill Peters will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Spring interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville.
Phyllis died Thursday morning, Dec. 19, 2013, at REM Plainview Home in Albert Lea. She was 78 years of age.
Phyllis was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Freeborn County, the daughter of Juren and Ida (Nesse) DeVries. She was a resident of Freeborn County all of her life and spent the past 32 years at REM Plainview Home. She worked for 33 years at Cedar Valley Services and retired in June of 2013. Phyllis had been a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
In her free time she enjoyed television watching her favorite shows that included “General Hospital,” “NCIS,” “World Wide Wrestling” and “Law and Order SVU.” She loved country music especially Kenny Rogers, playing jokes on the REM staff and attending the ARC prom. She was loved by everyone at Plainview Home and left her mark on all those she touched.
Phyllis is survived by nieces Debra Georgia, Barbara Thompson and Vickie Zobel, all of Lake Mills, and Annette Leslie of Des Moines; nephews D. Dwayne DeVries of Des Moines and Donald Thompson; many great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-nephew; one great-great-great-nephew; one sister-in-law, Ardyce DeVries, of Des Moines; special friends Jo Johnson of Duluth and Nicki Springborg, Heather Johnson and Amber Knudtson, all of Albert Lea; and many special Plainview friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Dorothy Thompson, Ruth Dagner and Idella DeVries; and one brother, Darold D. DeVries.
