The Albert Lea boys’ basketball team lost its first-round game Friday at the Windom tournament 70-50 against Mounds View.
Dedoch Chan and Cody Scherff led the Tigers’ frontcourt with double figures in scoring, while Cole Keyeski and Jakob Kilby led the backcourt with eight points each.
Albert Lea (2-6 overall, 1-3 Big Nine Conference) trailed 44-22 at halftime, but the Tigers out-scored Mounds View 28-26 in the second half.
Albert Lea head coach Lucas Kreuscher said he was impressed with his team’s defensive effort in the second half.
Mounds View (5-3 overall, 1-3 Suburban East Conference) built its lead by forcing turnovers that led to high percentage shots, Kreuscher said.
The Tigers played New Ulm in the second round of the four-team tournament for third place. Look for results in Monday’s Tribune.
New Ulm (2-8 overall, 0-3 South Central Conference) lost 69-58 against Windom in the first round.
“It’s nice to get away and play teams that we don’t have a chance to see very often,” Kreuscher said.
