MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota’s legislative auditor plans an investigation into the launch of MNsure, the state’s new online health insurance exchange.

Auditor Jim Nobles plans to start his investigation with the vendors that received tens of millions of dollars to build the website.

The first phase will focus on whether the IT contractors delivered on their promises and whether the state kept a close enough eye on their work during the process.

“We are squarely focused on making the consumer experience through MNsure a better one. We welcome the effort by the office of the Legislative Auditor to review past processes and decisions, and we hope this review is able to identify additional strategies for improvement,” MNsure spokeswoman Jenni Bowring-McDonough said late Monday night.

A team from Nobles’ office will kick off the audit Tuesday morning at the Minnesota Department of Commerce, which handled the flow of federal funds to the state.
